wisdom teeth says...: October 2004

I just got back form seeing my old bandmate, Jimi's, new band, the Angelus, at Hole in the Wall. Despite it not being my favorite place to see bands (or drink or hang out or anything else), it was actually cool. They're pretty good. Reminded me of Black Heart Procession at times and also of Mike Oldfield but I think was just the piano.

Went to a party afterwards but the girl who lived there was freaking out because people she didn't know were showing up so Amanda and I called people downtown and told them to come over after the bar closed just to see her freak out a bit more. We actually left soon thereafter.

So I'm at home and I indulged in a bit of my favorite new past time, drunk myspace-ing. Some people drunk-dial, I leave comments/testimonials and send people messages. It's always fun and if you're the recipient of one you should feel special as you're the person I'm thinking of when I'm at my most drunk/whatever.

It took me almost a week to figure out but my little google ads are for fancy b-o-n-g-s which I now spell out like that because they have a little web crawler that looks at your site and decides what kind of ads you get. It seems that when I mentioned them (the "b"-word) while talking about the movie Garden State, it was latched onto by their computer and, thus, weird ads.

I went to go see Rick's band at the Whisky Bar and they were very good. Not entirely my style but good nonetheless. After they were done it got boring very fast so I left quickly. While getting in my car I decided that if I could find a decent place to park I would go to Jackalope before it closed. As luck would have it I found a place. I shoulda kept on driving. Sometimes there's just no saving a night. Blah, blah, chat with acquaintances for a minute, finish my beer and skedaddle. Going out alone sucks.

I'm not optimistic about the halloween weekend. While it could be tons o' fun, if I think it'll be good, it'll suck. It's all a game of expectations, people. I have no costume and haven't put much thought into it. Shut up, Choo.

Hell yeah, the red sox won! I love watching history being made. I had a really nice/fun night. Went and watched the game downtown. Peeked at the eclipsing moon even though the city lights made it rather fuzzy. OK, more later maybe.

I want to talk about a certain team from Boston possibly winning the World Series tonight but don't want to jinx anything. But now you know where my heart is. Most of my undergrad career I had planned to go to law school at BU when I graduated but then a little thing like grades and poor attendance habits caught up to me. Also, I decided I wanted to play in bands. What a dumbass.

Hey! No one is clicking my ads, motherfuckers! A brotha's got to get paid!

For real, I will be your guru.

The show went really well last night. We played kinda sloppy but ok. People seemed to like it. As soon as I get a pic I'll try to post it on here. We played beneath stars hanging from the ceiling and paintings and Zach brought some of those swirly '60's lights.

Poker was tonight. After losing my ass for most of the evening I came back in the last hour to end up $5 ahead. Of course it didn't hurt that Cody and Jeff were so stoned by then that they couldn't tell what the hell was going on half the time. Sorry nothing particularly interesting right now.

How about this - I'll open this up as a forum for questions and advice. I'm a smart guy with all sorts of opinions. So leave your queries in the comments and I'll provide some answers asap.

OK. I like lists. I don't put them on here often but here goes...

Listening To - Soul Jazz Studio One 400% Dynamite
Reading - System of the World by Neal Stephenson (yes, still)
Watching - Red Sox come back and destroy them NYC suckas
Drinking - Lone Star and Creamsicles (which, to my knowledge, I invented - it's a screwdriver made with vanilla vodka. Try it. It's yummy.)
Craving - A roast beef sandwich from Ye Olde English Bakery in Temple, TX
Ashamed - that I ate no less than 7 chili dogs in the last few days

Yesterday I caught the second half of Clinic's set at Emo's. They were pretty damn good. I've never been a huge fan but I have to say I was digging it. Tomorrow I'm gonna go see my friends' band Beta Valentine. I haven't seen 'em yet but to be fair they've only played a couple of times.

Also, my band, which really is nameless but was called Green Cove Springs Eternal is playing this saturday @ Marisa's house around 7:30pm. The address is 804 James Street. Kelly's art will be on display. There will be beer.

At record stores and in music magazines, all I can see is a bunch of stuff I really could care less about. Bleh! Ted Leo is playing at the end of the month. He always renews my faith in humanity. But can I hold out that long?

Amanda is in NYC for a week. Have fun! Don't move there just yet!

I'm on a late night blogging spree.

"electric starburst
50% strawberry-kiwi mad dog + 50% sprite = 100% fucked up"

so says choo...

I wanna try it.

I forgot, I also went and voted today. It was the first day of early voting. I like the new computer-y voting machines - they make democracy seem like a video game. There was barely any line. I think I had to wait all of 4 minutes. I didn't vote in 2000 because there was a super long line and I was on my lunch break and I live in Texas so what does it matter anyway. Also I ran in to friends who were waiting in line when I left the makeshift voting booth at Fiesta.

Yeah whatever. I'm not sitting around. I don't need this - I can sing G'n'R @ beerland.

I waited 3 hours to see the Pixies tonight. I guess it was worth it.

Weekend weekend weekend. Did you ever really exist? Poo.

I'm gonna go watch the Pixies tape an episode of austin city limits in a few hours. I will have to wait in a line for an hour or two. This might be worth it but I'm not totally convinced. I'm sure it'll rock, though.

I won $7 at poker last night. I used it to buy chili dogs for dinner.

Despite my best efforts to keep my new computer clean of crap, it seems I've gotten one of those nasty virus/spyware things that spykiller and norton can't get rid of. To remedy this I have downloaded and switched to Mozilla explorer since all those nasty bits like to run in conjunction with Explorer. So far I like it fine. Whatever. It takes a bit of getting used to as things aren't always in the same place the were.

Dead Moon is playing at Emo's tonight.

I stayed in last night for the first time in a week or two. It was boring. Yesterday afternoon I went to see Garden State. It was kinda boring, too. It was OK - pretty much what I expected. The best part was that the theater was empty except for an older asian guy who came in and sat directly behind me. Every time something unseemly happen onscreen (like bong hits or people kissing) he would mutter to himself in whatever language he spoke (I couldn't tell). I really wish I knew what he was saying. In my head, when they were smoking weed onscreen, he was muttering something about "these damned kids are so immoral" but for all I know he was actually saying "damn, I wanna get high right now!"

"Some undecided voters unswayed by debate" Yahoo always brings you hard hitting news and the great, decisive headlines.

Wednesday, October 13, 2004

I've been checking the Mt St Helen's webcam compulsively for the past few weeks hoping not to missed some catastrophic even. So far all I've gotten is a little bit of smoke and steam now and then.

Much confusion about the green cove springs eternal show this sat. Looks like it might be moved to the next sat (10/23) which would be cool because we need the extra practice time. Also much confusion about the band name - that may be changed at any moment. I'm not a huge fan of the name but we have yet to come up with anything better.

I can't breathe today. Or yesterday.

I'm listening to the Band. I like those guys. I used to listen to em in the car all the time but when someone stole my cd player + cds outta my car last year they took my Band cds. So now I can only listen at home on record.

We went to my friend Terry's 30th bday party last night and it turns out he also got engaged last night. Weird. Everyone is turning 30. Blech. I went to Chris + Jennifer's combined 30th party on friday night. It was a fun fun fun despite the weird yuppie bar location. Mine's next month. Poopie.

Thursday, October 07, 2004

I sweat a lot when I'm nervous. Surprised? I didn't think so.

Tuesday, October 05, 2004

I learned something important last night - vodka tonics are much better when made with name booze instead of the house stuff. Also, posting comments and sending messages on myspace is way fun when drunk at 3am. It seems I would have figured that out sometime before now but apparently not.

I have band practice tonight. I think. I wonder how we'll be able to sing now that we have a drummer again? We're bright, industrious guys. I think we'll figure it out.

The Hot Snakes are coming to Emo's next month. Whoo-hoo and shit.

Monday, October 04, 2004

So, yeah, it's monday already. I don't have anything to post. I won $23 at poker last night which made me rather giddy. Later tried to catch manikin at beerland but apparently they cancelled and the place was all closed up.

Otherwise, I finished Of Human Bondage and finally watched The French Connection which in my head was always confused with Day of the Jackal. Umm, that's about it.

Friday, October 01, 2004

I watched the debate last night. Why? I dunno. Is there anything these two chumps say that makes one bit of sense? Bleh. I kept suggesting that it would have been better if they had carrot top as the moderator but no one seemed to agree.

So I'm a week into not working and I'm pretty well bored stiff. I know, I know, cry me a river. I haven't quite hit my stride yet, though, because I don't have the daytime schedule of food tv committed to memory yet.

Earlier, at lunch, Amanda threw her phone at me and hit me in the face.
