wisdom teeth says...: September 2006

Tomorrow I go in for the second part of my wonderful three part root canal. It's gonna be so much fun. I'm supposed to have band practice tomorrow night but I just don't see me making it out there with a numb and swollen jaw while all jacked up on darvocet. Speaking of band stuff (which I know I do way too much but it does occupy a lot of my thoughts), we're playing a show this saturday at Emo's. Here's a link to some info.

Tomorrow is also my last day at work for the year. I'm going to have about a month off before we leave for tour. I'm looking forward to sleeping in as much as possible during that time.

Here's a pic I stole from Austinist of us playing their pre-ACL party last week. I don't think I realized how many people were there...

A couple of interesting columns to read (because I'm bored)...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/18/AR2006091800992.html

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/20/business/20leonhardt.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin

Neither of them are as interesting as the article I posted last year about the illegal immigrant high school kids who beat MIT students in a robot building contest - http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.04/robot.html

I forgot to mention that I found out that next week will be my last at work for the year. This is just in time. I was hoping for a few weeks off before we start the monster tour. I need some time to relax. Sure, touring is fun and rewarding but it's also incredibly tiring, boring and hard on your body/health. I go back and forth between being super excited/dreading the whole thing.

I also get to go back to the dentist for part two of a three part root canal/crown procedure. I really, really hate having this crap done. I mean, not having the whole side of your face swollen and painful because of a toothache is nice, but the process of getting it fixed is not. The dentist told me that this session is "the long one" - about two hours long. At least this part is already paid for. When I go back in October for the crown I'll have to shell out a bit more than I pay for two months rent.

Driving to work this morning it was 65 and sunny.

Both of the shows last weekend went pretty well. There were tons of people at the Austinist party. Someone told me that the door count was 600 but I kinda doubt that many people were ever there at once. It was a big crowd, though. The other show on friday night was smaller but with more friends and people I knew. The whole thing got going very late (meaning it started around 1:30am). Sadly, those TABC assholes showed up around 3:15am and shut things down just before the Black got to play.

The rest of the weekend was rather laid-back. Luckily I managed to avoid most of the ACL related jerks that took over the town (excepting the ones that stayed at the days inn next door to us). I slept most of saturday since I was up very, very late friday. Andra and I went to see Black Dahlia that night. Scarlett Johansson is like a very, very beautiful piece of furniture (not that there's anything wrong with that). Definitely not a great movie, but, like Johansson, well worth looking at for a couple of hours. Sunday was all house cleaning, music file stealing, and wire-watching. Pretty nice.

Didn't do much this weekend. Stayed in mostly. I had to finish up the third season of the Wire before the new ones started tonight. I know it's a tough life I lead, but it had to be done. Ended up going downtown on Saturday night after the UT game and it wasn't nearly as bad as we thought it would be. On the way there we saw a car that had wrecked head-on into an ambulance. The cops had blocked off the streets already so fortunately there wasn't any gore to be seen.

What are some good music blogs? I can't ever find anything interesting and I'm sure there has be something somewhere. No necessarily mp3 blogs, just regular old news and gossip and reviews and whatever.

So, after a weekend of whining and pain, I finally got to the dentist yesterday. He looked at the x-ray and told me I have two choices - a root canal or have the tooth pulled. As I feel like I'm still too young (and not white trash enough) to have missing teeth, I opted for the root canal. It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be but it still sucked pretty bad. Overall, the hole they put in my pocketbook hurt worse than the hole they put in my face. The pain meds make me rather loopy and nauseous so I'm going without while I'm at work today. I went to band practice last night while on them and it made all the songs come out like something by BJM (which was kinda cool, actually.)
