wisdom teeth says...: August 2007

Last night I had a dream that I was going to be the new guitarist in Dio. The only detail I remember was that the first show was tomorrow and I had to learn 27 songs before then. Talk about a lot of pressure!

I've been spending a lot of time recently thinking about stuff. You know, stuff. Like how long can I stand to work at that crappy desk at a job I can barely tolerate? Like is all the time and effort I'm putting into this band really worth it? I don't know. I'm just very unsatisfied by everything. Perhaps if the band was making money and that was all I was doing it would be ok. SO I'm starting the worst of all ideas - an internet business (of sorts). I'm just getting going but I'm going to start selling used (and new) books online. I've been getting stuff at thrift stores and putting them up on amazon. I'm not really going to make any money yet but I'm going to give it a bit of time. From what I understand, it takes a while to figure out what is going to sell. I'm also getting some older collectible books and putting them on ebay. I only have one up so far. So in case you're at all interested in picking up some used books, check out the links below.

I know I've been pretty MIA for awhile. Not writing from work makes it harder. Plus, the boredom there tends to inspire more than the non-work time.

I've been reading a bunch lately. Getting back into sci-fi stuff for past six months or so. I love it when you discover a new writer (or writers) and all of a sudden there's this whole back catalog of books that you'll probably like. This time it's been Charles Stross, Bruce Sterling, and Vernor Vinge. None of whom are particularly obscure but I just hadn't read them before. Stross is particularly good because he writes kinda all over the place. He has his serious, singularity sci-fi. He has his really hokey paycheck fantasy stuff. And also a new series of fun, spoof type stories (reminds me alot of Hell-Boy).

We had our first band practice in a month last night. It was very rusty but we needed the time off. Now we're cramming for a show in Denton this weekend. I'm not too worried about it. It'll be more fun if we're all crappy and off.
