been in brooklyn for two days now. we're going to the beach tomorrow. went to a day party underneath the williamsburg bridge today and then saw hasidic jews playing baseball in their cute little outfits. austin peeps are everywhere. it's crazy. and fun. I can't wait to get home and post all the tons of pics I've taken. we're staying tonight at some apartment that johnny walker is housesitting. I've never been so thankful for air conditioning in my life.

I'm trying to do quick updates as I can. Right now I'm in the Rochester, NY Public Library killing time before the show tonight. We got here crazy early because since we didn't have any place to stay last night in Cleveland, we drove to Niagra Falls straight from the club. We arrived around 5am, got out and walked around the falls to the best of our abilities (being sleepy and groggy and confused.) After climbing back in the van and sleeping until 10am, we got up and walked around to get the full view. It was completely breathtaking. Amazing. I took a ton of pictures.

Later we crossed the "rainbow bridge" into Canada to eat lunch. All I can say is that Canada can go on my list of useless places along with Milwaukee. They shouldn't have been invented. Even their casinos are weird. I was trying to play some blackjack but none of the tables opened until 12:30pm. I lost $5 at slots then we split. I also spent $17 (canadian) at a tourist trap taco bell for myself and Adam to eat lunch (all of Niagra Falls is a tourist trap.)

So now we're hanging out in Rochester with nothing really to do. Tomorrow we get to NYC and I'm terribly excited to hang out in that city and see everyone that I haven't seen in so long

hey hey. I'm in chicago. aka austin jr jr (nyc being austin jr). tour has been nuts so far and very, very hot. we saw a sign saying it was 102 outside milwaukee. fucking hell. I've been taking tons of pictures and keeping a tour diary so I'll of course post all that when we get back.

of all ramdom things, last night we ended up at the lallapalooza afterparty here in chicago. I didn't see anyone famous but there were free drinks until 4am. tons of austin peep were there - the trail of dead guys, my roommate kevin (out touring w/spoon), aubrey and beth, john yak, susan (who got us in w/some help from vhs or beta.) it reminded me of those crazy sxsw parties that all the locals would crash - we all knew we shouldn't be there, they knew we shouldn't be there, yet somehow we scammed it all on the up and up.

today we have a day off here in chicago. I'm not sure what our plans are. I'm getting kinda home sick - last night helped to alleviate that a bit but tour has been damn rough on me so far. I'm totally exhausted and I don't think I've ever sweated this much in my lafe. I cannot wait to sleep in my own bed. also - I fucking hate crusty punks. just so you know.

I just spent a couple of hours putting together a new application for work. They makes these government things so ass-backwards. Anyway, since I'm getting the axe early this year and I'm being told that I should expect this from now on, I decided to start applying for other, more permanent, jobs here. They have a thing called open continuous applications which means I can apply for a certain class of jobs and any time something like that opens, I'm automatically considered. I'm also going to start looking in other places when I get back from tour but for all their faults, government jobs are the shit.

I came into work today at 6:30 fucking am. The reason for this? I fell asleep at 7:30 last night. There I was innocently reading when all of a sudden I was, you know, asleep. I woke at 4:30 this morning fully rested and weirded out. So I took a shower, checked my email, tried to go back to sleep for an extra hour and then said "fuck it" and came in to work. The good news is that now I get off at 3pm instead of 5:30pm.

I've never really posted any picture links or the like in here but this just killed me. It's from found magazine's website.

I was assassinated @ approximately 2:15am sunday morning outside of the jackalope bar. I was was walking with my arm around the assassin drunkenly blathering about random shit when I was betrayed and killed. So sad.

That's my old guitar on the cover of this week's chronicle. I sold it to Jason last summer. It was kinda fucked up in "the great house fire of '01." Also it weighed too much and made my neck hurt when I played it. Now it's getting all the rocking it needs and deserves. Awww, my baby...

I just took a zrytec, an advil, and a sudefed all at once. Too many pills. I feel like a goddamn AIDS patient (except without, you know, the impending death.)

Here are the tour dates where I'll be slinging merch and hauling amps for Those Peabodys. (I'm freakin excited - I love tours!) Check it out - 3, maybe 4, days in NYC. A show w/Jason from Sebadoh (like many lonely guy in college in the mid-90's, sebadoh was a uder-fave.) A show in Manhattan w/ Oneida (the best band around right now? possibly. The Wedding kicks ass.)

july 20 oklahoma city
july 21 lawrence ks
july 22 st louis
july 23 milwaukee house party
july 24 chicago w/ jason loewenstein from sebadoh @ empty bottle
july 25 day off

Most of my back-in-high-school dreams have to do with realizing that I have to finish a math class that I'd been skipping so I have to go and finish it. Last night's was no exception. Get this - I was factoring in my dream. How fucked up is that? I was dreaming about factoring. That is wrong on so many levels. Math is the main reason I stuck to a nice liberal arts degree - I can't do that shit! It took me many a try to get past that one semester math requirement. Sure I wanted a geology degree but I'd have had to take a couple of semesters of calculus and that was that. Fuck! I need better dreams.

So unless things change drastically (again) I will be out of a job (for now) on July 15.

July 20- Aug 6 I will be on tour with Those Peabodys through the midwest and east coast.

Aug 6 - whenever, I will be poor and hungry and probably selling a bunch of my shit (books, cds, lps, guitars, recording stuff.)

Right now I'm listening to Bert Jansch and trying not to freak the fuck out. I'll be working overtime in anticipation of being broke tonight and tomorrow.

There's a really great article about Roald Dahl over at the New Yorker.

I finally saw Batman Begins this weekend. It was perfect. This was the superhero movie I've been waiting for.

I also saw Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. It was much less than perfect but enjoyable and very tense for a good 3/4th of the movie. He's just started production on a movie about the 1972 Munich Olympics where Palestinian terrorists kidnapped and then executed Israeli athletes. This could be interesting - Spielberg's "serious" movies are much better these days than his action movies (though none come close to Jaws or Indiana Jones.)

I had an accidental four day weekend. It was meant to be a standard govt three day weekend but since thursday night was a bit rough, friday was included.

Friday night I went geo-caching for the first time. My friend Kim took me. To explain it simply, you take a mobile hand held GPS and search for "caches" that people have hidden. You go to the website, enter your zip code and it gives you the gps coordinates of where a cache is hidden. The caches we were looking for were a tupperware container with coins and another with pins/buttons. The idea is that you take something and leave something and sign the logbook to say that you found the cache.

So Friday night, Kim and I were wondering around parks in North Austin at midnight with a couple of big, cop flashlights and a gps. The gps only gets you within 20-40 feet and then you have to search (sometimes they give you clues) for the caches which means turning over rocks and looking in trees and under bushes. Sadly, we didn't find either of the caches we were looking for but the search was fun. A bit of reward wouldn't have been too bad, either, though.

Also, Austin Assassination started yesterday. I'd say more but then I'd have to kill you.
