Anyone want to go to this with me on Sunday?

You know, I had alot of fun dj-ing at the bar last night. After some initial trouble figuring out how the hell the mixer/turntables work, things went smoothly. We each had a set of 45-50 minutes. I wanna do that again.

Brothers and Sisters DJ set @ the beauty bar tonight. 10pm-2am. Personally, I'm aiming for the 11-ish slot. FYI.

I went at lunch and tried to drop off my car to have the bumper fixed. They said I needed an appointment for an estimate. I wanted to say "I estimate it'll take you about 8 1/2 minute to fix this shit so get to it!" but instead I agreed to come back in the morning. If it's gonna cost more that $150 I'm just gonna keep using the twist ties. They've held the thing on for six months already, why change?

In case you're interested, here's a link to a webpage that lets you "opt-out" of the mailing list for all those pre-approved credit cards. This is my public service for this week.

Friday: I won $2.30 playing poker at Jeff & Alicia's. It might not sound like much but I was down $15 there for a bit.

Saturday: Recording w/Camp X-Ray. At the studio for 9 hours or so. Got 8 songs done. They sounded pretty good to my super-faded ears. Then Danielle & Brandon's housewarming party. I was pretty tired but half a Sparks kept me going for another couple of hours. Note: Gay men make the best hors d'oeuvres (but then again, you already knew that.)

Sunday: Television watching. Then bowling w/Andra, Andrea, Ani, Isaac and Mark. It didn't occur to me until the second game, but bowling with a broken bone in your hand will start to hurt after a while. Also, I won both games. Later was Thai curry and a messy nail-biter basketball game.

Man, the Touch & Go 25th Anniversary Celebration is pretty damn tempting. Scratch Acid(!), Pegboy, Shellac, !!! - for cheap. Anyone wanna go to Chicago in September?

It was a fun and busy weekend. Friday night I saw Shellac who were impossibly good. Saturday we spent the day swimming and reading and lounging at Hamilton Pool. I'd never been before and had heard how beautiful it was but, really, it far surpassed my expectations. That night Brothers and Sisters played a sold-out show at the Cactus Cafe. Lots of friends came out. It was a rollicking good time (despite once again being told to be at a show way early so we could sound check only find out when we're there that there will be no sound check.) Sunday I sat around reading and watching bad tv before heading to cookout at Eric and Joolie's in honor of our departing guest Amanda. I stayed much later than I meant to.

The best part about last night was when Choo and I were franticly looking for my "lost" wallet for about 30 seconds before I realized that I was actually holding it in my hand the whole time.

I'm rather proud of myself. For the past month or so I've been saving a bit of my paycheck in anticipation of leaving work in July to go on tour. Now that I'm not going until August, I have an extra month to save so I decided to put that money to good use. I paid off one credit card and made significant dents in the rest. I know no one wants to read about how I'm managing my debt but I thought it was pretty exciting. My netflix auto-payments won't be rejected anymore because there's no room on the card! Now if I could just make a dent in the money I owe on my computer...

Amanda gets into town today. Expect hi-jinx of some kind. Maybe. Or at least alot of swimming. And margaritas.

Coming, and Going

Amanda gets here next week! Yay! I hope I manage a bit of time off work to run around and play host a bit.

I hung out with my friend Catherine last night. She's moving to Portland in a week or two. Even though she's been in Houston for the past couple of years, she really moving away away this time. It makes me rather sad.

Speaking of going, now it looks like I'm not going back to Europe in July as I previously thought. I'm kinda disappointed but, knowing those guys, I was half expecting this to happen. For all I know I'll get a call two days before they leave asking if I can still go.

I just finished reading the Golden Compass last night. It's the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy. It's obstinately "young adult" literature but, like the Harry Potter books or something, it's totally readable and completely engrossing. I have to go at lunch today and buy the second book.
